Why it works

Cottage cheese delivers ~33 g of slow-digesting casein-rich protein, the macronutrient with the highest satiety per calorie via the protein-leverage effect and elevated GLP-1 and PYY signaling. Chia seeds absorb many times their weight in liquid to form a viscous gel that, with oat beta-glucan, slows gastric emptying, while the berries and near-500 g total bowl weight add volume and water at low energy density.

Evidence

Reflects high-protein breakfast research showing greater fullness and reduced later intake, and the soluble-fiber (chia, oats) evidence base for slowed gastric emptying and steadier postprandial glucose.

Ingredients

  • 200 g low-fat (1%) cottage cheese
  • 40 g rolled oats
  • 15 g chia seeds
  • 150 ml unsweetened almond milk
  • 100 g mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. Stir the rolled oats, chia seeds, almond milk, cinnamon and vanilla together in a bowl or jar.
  2. Cover and refrigerate at least 20 minutes (or overnight) until the chia and oats swell into a thick gel.
  3. Fold in the cottage cheese until creamy.
  4. Top with the mixed berries and serve cold.
